A moment of pride. The trial run of India’s first solar ferry ‘Aditya’ held on 25 November at Aroor, Kerala was a success. It is constructed by Kochi-based Navalt for the SWTD. The ferry is powered by 71-140 m2 solar panels installed on its roof, capable of producing 20 KW of electricity, which is stored in 700-kg/50-KW Li-ion battery. The he battery can also be charged from grid. It takes nearly 8 hours to fully charge. The vessel, which is 20 M long and 7 M wide, is made of fiber glass and can cruise at a max speed of 7.5 knots. Again Kerala has taken the first step!!
